ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal has vowed to provide foolproof security to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

He said in an interview with a private news channel that the country’s enemies aimed to destabilise the country by creating obstacles to the effective completion of the game-changing CPEC project.

According to Ahsan Iqbal, Pakistan will apprise China about the CPEC’s progress and increase coordination with China in this regard.

In response to a question about Balochistan, the Minister for Planning stated that peace and development are inextricably linked and that the current government would open up new avenues for development in the region.

Note that, following the recent event at the Karachi University on April 26 in which four people including three Chinese nationals were killed in a blast, the government determined to protect the safety of Chinese workers throughout the country.

Earlier while reviewing the security progress on CPEC projects, Ahsan Iqbal also directed the secretary of the Ministry of Information to engage local and regional media in order to protect Balochistan’s youth from extremism.

The minister also urged all line ministries to guarantee that Chinese workers on the CPEC adhere to established security measures.

Furthermore, the minister added that anti-CPEC propaganda is an attempt to keep people in Pakistan’s less developed regions from benefiting from the project’s favourable socio-economic externalities.
