Kell Brook, the former world welterweight champion of the United Kingdom, has retired following a career in which he won 40 of his 43 professional matches.
In February, the 36-year-old defeated Amir Khan in the sixth round, putting an end to one of British boxing’s longest-running feuds.
He told, “My heart’s no longer in it, I’ve got nothing left to prove.”
“I had a lengthy discussion with my family. For me, the game is ended. I’m never going to box again.”
“It’s a little emotional to be speaking this out loud,” he added. “Julie, my mother, is relieved. Everyone in my immediate vicinity appears to be delighted.”
“The truth is, boxing is a really difficult and hazardous sport in which you may be legally murdered in the ring, and I’ve finished with all of my faculties intact.”
