On Wednesday, Amber Heard took the stand in her ex-husband Johnny Depp’s libel action to tell the court her side of the tale.
Social media users, on the other hand, were quick to discover the parallels between her opening remarks and the narrative of the classic film The Talented Mr. Ripley.
The Aquaman actress opened her testimony with facts from her early days with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, which Twitter claims she borrowed from the psychological thriller.
During her evidence, Heard stated, “I felt like the most beautiful person in the world when I was with Johnny. He made me feel noticed. He made me feel like I was worth a million dollars.”
“And that type of sensation… extravagant presents and generous statements of love, and how he’d never met a lady like me,” the 36-year-old actor continued.
“It seemed like a nightmare. “It felt like utter paradise,” she said, as the actor described how they were spending days together while keeping their romance under wraps.
She went on to allege that although their relationship was going well, Depp would be missing for days at a time, stating, “He would disappear. And there would be no way to contact him or get in touch with him.”
Critics found parallels between Heard’s monologue with words from the film in which Marge Sherwood (played by Gwyneth Paltrow) says, “The thing about Dickie is that he makes you feel like the sun is shining on you, and it’s great. Then he forgets about you, and it gets very, very chilly.”
“When you have his attention, you feel like you’re the only person in the world, which is why everyone loves him so much,” according to the screenplay.
“Her entire opening speech is literately the plot of The Talented Mr. Ripley,” one Twitter user said.
“I’m very convinced Amber Heard mentioned not one, but numerous movies during her testimony,” said another. Like Mr. Ripley, Matilda, Gone Girl, and so on????? Why???? Did she believe that moviegoers wouldn’t notice????
