Govt to initiate crack down against spreading immoral content on social media

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to crack down against those who malign people by spreading x-rated and immoral videos on social media.

Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah in his statement on Friday said that those who spread immoral content on social media will be arrested.

He said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed that such content should not be tolerated and social media should not be allowed to be used for tossing people’s turbans.

The Home Minister further said that the elements involved in such criminal activities would be dealt with iron hands and those who spread such filth including immoral videos and pictures would be annihilated.

He said that instructions have also been issued to FIA and concerned agencies in this regard.

Last year the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication issued a notification of Social Media Rules 2021 under which inappropriate and obscene material was banned.

The law bans live streaming of extremist, terrorist, hateful, obscene and violent content, and the promotion of immoral and obscene material would be a felony.

The law makes it clear that negative content related to any person will not be uploaded and content related to the privacy of others will also be banned.

The Social Media Rules prohibit content related to the mental and physical development and morale of children and all social media organizations including YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, and Google Plus are required to abide by the rules.
