Body of Vegas shooting victim found at Lake Mead

The decomposed body discovered in a metal barrel along Lake Mead’s retreating shoreline was a male who died from a gunshot wound sometime between the mid-1970s and early 1980s, according to Las Vegas police.

The man’s body was wearing sneakers made and manufactured by Kmart in the middle to late 1970s, according to Homicide Lt. Ray Spencer of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, who informed the Las Vegas Review Journal on Tuesday morning.

‘We’re going to expand our time frame of the murder to the middle to late 1970s to early ’80s,’ Spencer said.

The shooting killing confirms Spencer’s earlier comments to the New York Times that detectives would ‘absolutely not rule out’ the likelihood that the skeleton in the barrel was the victim of a mob-related murder.
