India lead ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings

Following the annual update on Wednesday, 4 May, India has consolidated their place at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings.

India now enjoys a five-point advantage over England at the top of the charts, up from one previously.
The new rankings take into account all T20I series played since May 2019, with those played before May 2021 receiving a 50% weighting and those played after May 2021 receiving a 100% weighting.

Following their failure to reach the semi-finals of the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman, India has been in superb form in the format.

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, who took over from Virat Kohli after the World Cup last year, India has defeated New Zealand, the West Indies, and Sri Lanka on home soil.

With 265 rating points, England is in second place. With 261 rating points, Pakistan completes the top three.
South Africa has moved up one spot to fourth place while maintaining their old rating points (253) while Australia has moved up one spot to fifth place while maintaining their rating points (251).

New Zealand has slid two places to No. 6 in the rankings, losing five points in the process (250). West Indies (240 points) are still in sixth place.

Bangladesh (233 points) and Sri Lanka (230 points) have both moved up one spot in the rankings to eighth and ninth, respectively.

Afghanistan has slid two spots to tenth position, losing six rating points in the process (226).
Portugal has gained the most points overall in the annual update, garnering eleven points (54). As a result, they’ve risen five places in the rankings, to 45th place.

Since May 2019, each team has been forced to play a minimum of six rated matches, bringing the total number of ranked teams down to 72 from 91.
