Russian and Belarusian athletes have been barred from competing at Wimbledon

Russian and Belarusian athletes have been barred from competing at Wimbledon

Wimbledon decides to restrict participants from Russia and Belarus due to the invasion of Ukraine.

It has caused a growing schism among some of the world’s best tennis players.

Wimbledon explained its decision by stating that it did not want to “help the Russian regime’s propaganda machine.”

Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, and Novak Djokovic, have won a combined ten Wimbledon titles.

They have joined the likes of the ATP and WTA in opposing the ban.

The ban has mostly been backed by Ukrainian players.

Sergiy Stakhovsky has denounced those who oppose it.

He said, “Please tell me how it is fair that Ukrainian players cannot return home? How it is fair that Ukrainian kids cannot play tennis? How is it fair that Ukrainians are dying?”

The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AETLC) has prohibited Russian and Belarusian players from participating in an elite tennis event for the first time.
