In Burkina Faso, rescuers are attempting to reach eight miners who have been stranded underground for more than two weeks.

Following severe rain last month, the Perkoa zinc mine flooded.

Six of the miners are from Burkina Faso, with the remaining two coming from Zambia and Tanzania.

Burkina Faso’s government has begun a legal investigation, and the mine managers are currently barred from leaving the country.

Trevali, a Canadian mining corporation, claims it is working around the clock to find the missing men.

According to the report, when the mine flooded, the eight miners were more than 500m down ground than their colleagues.

Prime Minister Albert Ouedraogo paid a visit over the weekend and accused people in charge of the mine, alleging that dynamite was used, allowing floodwaters to enter more readily.

Trevali stated that it was aware of the prime minister’s remarks and was also looking into the cause of the tragedy.
