Denmark and Sweden have both claimed that a Russian spy plane breached their airspace.

Both have summoned Russian ambassadors in response to the incident.

According to the Danish Defence Command, the aircraft was a reconnaissance plane that was in Danish airspace for “a very little moment” before being intercepted by Danish F-16 fighter jets. It went on to say that such occurrences are uncommon.

Danish Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod described the breach as “very unacceptable and especially concerning in the current context.”

While Denmark is a NATO member, Sweden is pondering whether to join the organization.

The Swedish defense minister, however, told the Dagens Nyheter daily that there was no confirmation that the event was related to these negotiations.
