Nurse shoots and kills herself in hospital ER

According to officials, an investigation is underway in California after a nurse allegedly committed suicide while working in a hospital’s emergency room. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Santa Clara police responded to a call of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Kaiser’s Santa Clara Medical Center in Santa Clara at approximately 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

A female nurse, who has not been recognized, was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. She was halfway through her shift at the hospital when the event occurred, according to NBC Bay Area. According to accounts, officers did not lock down the hospital, with the shooting taking place in an isolated room near the emergency department, Assistant Police Chief Wahid Kazem stated on Friday.

Mr. Kazem stated that no additional employees or patients were threatened, and that hospital procedure resumed on Wednesday night following the event. During the first police reaction, ambulances were briefly diverted to adjacent hospitals, and walk-in patients were still welcomed.

In a statement, Dr. Rakesh Chaudhary, the physician in chief at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center, stated, “Our hearts go out to the family, friends, and coworkers touched by this tragic loss.” He went on to say, “Our teams are on-site offering emotional support and services for personnel.” “We appreciate our staff and clinicians who acted quickly, as well as the caring assistance our Santa Clara team is receiving from Kaiser Permanente and other health-care organizations.”

The cause of the incident is yet unknown. The Santa Clara Police Department has been contacted for comment by the Independent.
