China launches new satellites

At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, China successfully launched five satellites into intended orbit from a station in the East China Sea (Beijing Time). A Long March-11 carrier rocket successfully launched the Jilin-1 Gaofen series satellites into their targeted orbit.

They will provide commercial remote sensing data services for land resource assessment, urban planning, and catastrophe monitoring, among other industries. The launch was the Long March series carrier rockets’ 418th flying mission.

From the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre in northwest China, the satellites were launched into intended orbit.

The test spaceship was also sent into orbit on May 5 by China’s cutting-edge carrier rocket Long March-5B and returned on May 8 after two days and 19 hours in orbit.

According to the article, Fengyun-3E (FY-3E) will be the world’s first civil meteorological satellite in early morning orbit. It has an eight-year lifetime and will primarily collect air temperature, humidity, and other meteorological characteristics for numerical prediction applications, enhancing China’s weather forecasting capability.

It will also keep track of global snow cover, sea surface temperature, natural catastrophes, and ecology in order to better adapt to climate change and avoid and reduce weather disasters. The satellite will also monitor the solar and space environments, as well as ionospheric data, to satisfy the demands of space weather predictions and support services, according to the source.
