The Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss, has stated that investigators will be sent to Ukraine to seek evidence of Russian forces’ war crimes.
Despite Moscow’s claims, Ukrainian officials and the International Criminal Court have been examining alleged Russian war crimes since the invasion began on February 24.
“We will also use British intelligence to help show the link between what is happening on the frontlines and the Russian authorities,” Ms. Truss said on Friday, emphasizing the importance of holding everyone in the chain of command accountable.
“The priority now is to collect the evidence as quickly as possible and to do so, as well as to bring perpetrators to justice, because bringing perpetrators to justice also means preventing further atrocities in Ukraine by demonstrating to people that if they commit war crimes or use rape as a weapon of war, they will be held accountable.”
“We’re considering all options, including how to prosecute the crime of aggression.”
