Kim Basinger opened out about her divorce from Alec Baldwin and the impact it had on their daughter Ireland Baldwin.
The actor and former fashion model, who appeared on Red Table Talk with her daughter, stated that the Dr. Death actor was not accessible ’emotionally or intellectually’ for Ireland’s anxiety difficulties.
Basinger informed Jada Pinkett Smith, the show’s presenter, that she and Baldwin “went through a heavy-duty, very public divorce.”
“And (Ireland) had to go through that really difficult period,” she continued.
“Or were you guys able to sort of see eye to eye on how to manage it?” Smith questioned the 68-year-old actor, adding, “Or were you guys able to see eye to eye on how to handle it?”
“Eye to eye?” Basinger responded. No. No, it wasn’t Alec – he’s a riot. Whatever the case may be, we’re all good and get along. But he’s become a stumbling block.”
“I mean, come on,” she added. We’ve had our share of difficulties. And I don’t believe Alec was emotionally or cognitively prepared for such a discussion. Alec, you know, lives his life in a completely different way.”
Ireland said that her father suffers from anxiety as well, but his coping strategies are totally different.
“He has a lot of anxiety,” Ireland explained, “but he grew up in a household that would repress it or tell him he was weak for feeling that way.”
