PM rejects summary for increase in prices of petroleum products: Marriyum

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has rejected the summary for increase in prices of petroleum products. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said this in a statement on Thursday.

She said incompetence and serious mistake of the last government should not make people suffer.

Marriyum said the last government of former prime minister Imran Khan had acceded to harsh conditions of the International Monitory Fund of increasing prices of the petroleum products to secure loan from the IMF.

The Minister said the government is making every possible effort not to put any further burden on the people, already facing the brunt of high inflation.

On April 26, Minister for Finance Miftah Ismail had said the government would devise a policy to increase petroleum prices.

The elite class having big vehicles could not be given subsidy, however, those using less petrol such as motorcyclists would be given relief, he had said while talking to a private news channel.

Miftah had said the present government would bring administrative improvement in the next few months. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had advised him that no economic pressure should be put on the common people, he had added.

He had said the government would make all-out efforts to reduce the budget deficit which had increased during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) regime. “We will collect more tax than our predecessors without levying any new tax.”
