ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday decided to initiate an inquiry against Farah Khan, a close friend of former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s spouse Bushra Bibi, after media reports suggesting massive financial embezzlements.
NAB Chairperson Justice (retd) Javaid Iqbal gave the approval for inquiry against Khan, who is also known Farah Gogi, in a high-level meeting held today, he also directed the NAB Lahore to initiate proceedings as according to law.
Farah Khan is accused of money laundering and making asset beyond means, said an official NAB spokesperson. He added that Khan has frequently travelled abroad during the previous government of Imran Khan – including nine visits each to the United States of America and United Arab Emirates.
The NAB has also alleged that as many as Rs847 million were transferred to Farah Khan’s personal account in the last three years. Khan has not yet given her version on the NAB’s statement.
Following the dissolution of the National Assembly (NA) in the wake of the no-trust move against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Farah Khan left for Dubai in the wee hours.

Khan’s husband, Jamil Gujjar, had already left the country in the wake of the prevailing political situation of the country. According to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) sources, Farah had left for Dubai a3am on Monday.
Farah Khan has been the centre of controversy after Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz had accused her of being involved in corruption and kickbacks, particularly in transfer and postings of officials in Punjab.
Former Punjab governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar had also echoed similar claims, saying huge money was being minted for transfer and postings in Punjab.

Former chief minister of Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar had rejected the allegations of the former governor, saying every transfer and posting was being done transparently.
On the other hand, Imran Khan’s close aide Shehbaz Gill had also rejected the allegations, saying the opposition had begun to target Bushra Bibi’s friend after they couldn’t find anything to criticize the former first lady.
