Sadio Mane, Liverpool striker, has recounted how the club has supported its Muslim players throughout Ramadan.
Fasting during the holy month, according to Mane, is difficult to handle as a player due to training periods and the variation of kick-off times.
Premier League players frequently play midweek evening matches as well as a variety of Sunday afternoon kick-offs.
However, before this year’s holy month, Mane stated that he spoke with Manager Jurgen Klopp about changing training timings to accommodate the club’s Muslim players.
“It’s not simple to play, practice, and observe Ramadan,” Mane told a foreign sports website.
“However, before Ramadan, we attempted to speak with the captain and inform the boss that perhaps we might adjust the schedule?”
“We practice in the morning.”
“It’s more convenient for us. If you train in the morning, you will have time to recuperate and return home… It will be difficult to train around 2 p.m. or 3 p.m.”
“They replied yes, which made it easy for me. We are making every effort to do our best.”
“Game day is something else,” he remarked, “but Ramadan makes things difficult.”
“Liverpool attempted to make things simpler for us. We talked to our dietitian a lot before the game. She made everything simpler for us.”
