In retaliation for Tokyo’s expulsions, Moscow has announced the expulsion of eight Japanese diplomats.
Russia’s foreign ministry announced the move, accusing Japan of taking a “openly hostile anti-Russian course” and stating that the country’s envoys must leave by May 10.
It accused Tokyo of “abandoning amicable, productive relations with Russia” and “taking moves that were unique in modern Russian-Japanese relations.”
Japan dismissed eight Russian ambassadors earlier this month and stated that it would no longer import Russian coal.
