Foreign Secretary Liz Truss will argue that Britain and other Western powers should deploy jets to Ukraine as she urges more defense investment.
Liz Truss will argue in a speech in London on Wednesday that the West “must be prepared for the long haul and double down on our support” for the country.
Ukraine has regularly asked friends to deliver heavy arms such as planes and tanks since Russia’s invasion.
In order to avoid an escalation, NATO has largely provided lesser weapons.
Ms. Truss will tell a Mansion House audience that “the fate of Ukraine remains in doubt” and that the West “cannot be complacent.”
“If Putin succeeds there will be untold further misery across Europe and terrible consequences across the globe. We would never feel safe again,” she will say.
“Heavy weapons, tanks, aeroplanes – digging deep into our inventories, ramping up production. We need to do all of this.”
The speech came just days after Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced Poland had dispatched tanks to Ukraine. Germany has also committed to sending 50 anti-aircraft tanks.
