The government of Bulgaria has announced that Russia’s state gas firm, Gazprom, will cease supply to the country beginning tomorrow.

It comes just hours after Poland announced the suspension of its Russian gas supplies.

According to Reuters, the Bulgarian energy ministry has taken steps to secure alternate gas sources and has informed people that there is no need to restrict gas consumption at this time.

It claimed that Gazprom offered a new payment structure that violated its current contract with Bulgaria.

To protect its currency as Western sanctions bite, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a directive earlier this month forcing gas consumers to pay in roubles via Russian bank accounts.
