Russia will cease providing gas to Poland on Wednesday, according to PGNiG, the Polish state gas provider.

PGNiG say that Russian energy company Gazprom informed it that all gas deliveries to the nation are to be suspended starting at 08:00 CET (07:00 BST). Gazprom defended the suspension by citing new regulations issued last month that require “unfriendly” countries to pay in roubles for gas. This is something that PGNiG has refused to undertake. PGNiG imports the majority of its gas from Gazprom, with the Russian corporation accounting for 53% of its imports in the first quarter of this year.
