According to officials, the body of a 10-year-old Wisconsin girl who went missing Sunday night was discovered Monday morning. During a press conference, Chippewa Falls Police Chief Matthew Kelm said Iliana “Lily” M. Peters’ father reported her missing when she did not come home from her aunt’s residence.

Peters’ bike was located a few streets from her aunt’s house, and her corpse was discovered in a rural area on Monday morning. Chippewa Falls police are investigating her death as a homicide and have warned that the public may be at risk.

Police issued a tip line for anybody with information on Peters’ killing after the press briefing.

The Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District stated that it was cooperating with authorities. “Our prayers are with the family during this terrible time,” the district said in a statement.

During the news conference, Kelm cried up slightly when he reported Peters’ death.

“Anything that affects our children has a huge influence on our first responders,” he stated.
