When asked by a reporter if the battle in Ukraine is turning into a proxy war between the US and Russia, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin responded it is “absolutely Ukraine’s struggle.”
In a network pool interview, Austin stated, “Ukraine’s neighbours, allies, and partners are stepping up to make sure they have what they need to be successful.” “Ukrainians are struggling to save their independence.”
Austin’s words follow prior statements that one of the US’s aims was to “weaken” Russia so that it could no longer threaten its friends the way it did Ukraine.
