Homicide spikes in Austin; three shootings in 8 hours

Austin saw three end-of-the-week shootings in more than an 8-hour time frame. With two in north Austin and one close to downtown.

Two of the shootings came in the early long stretches of Sunday morning. Officials answered a theft and shooting around 2:30 a.m. in north Austin that left one subject injured.

About 90 minutes after the fact, officials answered a shooting close to Austin’s Pleasant Valley area. One individual was shipped to a nearby emergency clinic.

Third shooting in the evening around 8:30 p.m. in north Austin left one man injured, as indicated by KXAN. He self-shipped to the emergency clinic for treatment.

No captures have been made in any of the occurrences.

Austin had a record 89 crimes last year as urban communities across the country saw flood a flood in killings, Austin reports. While the complete number of manslaughters set a standard, the crime rate is still lower than it was during the 1980s.

An action that would have expanded police subsidizing. And laid out at least two officials for each 1,000 inhabitants was dismissed by Austin citizens last year.

Austin Police Chief Joseph Chacon said in December that the division has 200 openings. So would have to enlist more staff to bring down reaction times.

“Honestly, we need more officials,” Chacon told the Texas Tribune. “I need more cops.”

APD saw a surge of official takeoffs after the city board cut its financing by about a third in August 2020.
