Thick plumes of black smoke billow into the sky as a massive fire rages in Totnes following an explosion

After a large explosion was reported at an industrial facility in Totnes, Devon, a massive fire broke out.

With six fire engines on the site, firefighters are attempting to put out the fires, while police are also there. According to an eyewitness, the burning structure is part of the operations of a company called Tideford Organic Foods. The fire spews massive plumes of black smoke into the sky.

A woman who works at Tideford Organic Foods said she could smell something wrong before the explosion because of a strange odor.

She told DevonLive: “I smelt it all night. It smelt like wax burning. I thought it was coming from the fly zapper.

I thought it was coming from the fly zapper. All of a sudden I could really smell it. Luckily one of the lads had just come in and came out of the toilet.\s” He turned around and said sh** it’s on fire. Get out!”

An eyewitness told DevonLive that they heard an explosion before flames rushed through the warehouse’s roof.

Police and firefighters were said to have arrived at the site at about 8.15 p.m. on Monday.

Crowds have also congregated in the neighborhood, according to eyewitnesses.

However, authorities are apparently attempting to evacuate the area of onlookers due to concerns over the plastic fumes.

Eyewitnesses said that “the air is thick with acrid smoke coming out of the roof of the building.”

“Firefighters have doused down the flames and are spraying hoses from both sides of the building.”

On Friday, April 22, the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service responded to another fire-burning industrial facility in Exeter.

Residents and workers in the area were warned to stay home and close their windows due to possibly hazardous smoke plumes.
