After putting himself on fire in front of the Supreme Court building, a man died.

A guy set himself on fire in front of the United States Supreme Court on Friday night, according to a court official, who stressed that there was no danger to the public.

Wynn Bruce, of Boulder, Colorado, was identified by the Metropolitan Police Department. He died from his injuries on Saturday, according to authorities.

The event happened at 6:30 p.m., according to a court official. A medical chopper landed minutes later and whisked the victim away to a nearby hospital.

According to the representative, no one else was hurt.

After the Supreme Court Police, U.S. Capitol Police, and Metropolitan Police Department came to the situation, the area was closed to the public.

“The area remains blocked for further investigation,” a court official said in a statement. “However, this is not a public safety problem.”
At the time, the Supreme Court was not in session, and Congress was in recess. The Supreme Court is directly across the street from the Capitol.
Friday night, Capitol Police tweeted about the event, claiming the chopper was responding to a medical emergency and that no one else was in danger.

The Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department have been contacted for comment by NBC News.

After the Federal Aviation Administration neglected to notify Capitol Police of plans for the US Army’s Golden Knights to parachute from a plane into neighbouring Nationals Park for Military Appreciation Night, the Capitol was evacuated Wednesday night. Later, police stated that the Capitol building was not at danger.

A shooting near two campuses in a residential area of D.C. shook the city earlier on Friday, injuring four people.
