A formal agreement was signed on Sunday between Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, president of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and Ivo Ferriani, president of the Global Association of International Sports Federations, confirming Riyadh as the host city for the 2023 World Combat Games.
The statement that the event will be placed in Saudi Arabia was first made in May, and now it has been confirmed.
This tournament, according to Prince Abdulaziz, would be the latest in a growing series of international athletic events hosted under the Saudi Vision 2030 banner, which aims to promote a healthier and more active lifestyle throughout the Kingdom.
He went on to say that Saudi Arabia already has the infrastructure in place to host the event, which would feature 15 martial arts competitions.
“We’re all thrilled to be hosting so many world champions at these games,” he said.
