Coach Ryan Campbell of Netherlands has made progress in his rehabilitation from a heart attack and is now in a stable condition in an England hospital.
Campbell had a heart attack last week and was taken out of an induced coma on Tuesday by physicians with no evidence of brain damage.
Campbell’s family announced on Sunday that they are hopeful that the former Australia and Hong Kong player will make a complete recovery.
“The family is overjoyed to announce that Ryan’s sedation was successfully removed this afternoon by the excellent team at the Royal Stoke University Hospital,” the statement read.
“He has responded admirably and is currently in a stable state.”
“He is talking and responding, despite the fact that he is still quite weak.”
“Doctors believe he will make a full recovery if he continues to make progress. We’d want to express our gratitude for everyone’s affection and well wishes once more. “
“We’ll keep you updated as additional information becomes available.”
Campbell was named coach of Netherlands in January 2017 after playing for both Australia and Hong Kong at the international level.
In 2016, he made his T20I debut for Hong Kong in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, making him the oldest player to do so aged 44 years and 30 days.
