Prince Edward and Sophie, Earl and Countess of Wessex, have postponed their visit to Grenada.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex’s Caribbean holiday has been postponed, just one day before the start of their week-long journey.

Buckingham Palace says the decision was reached after discussions with the island’s administration and governor general.

Other islands will be visited by Prince Edward and Sophie as part of the tour to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The announcement comes after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were chastised for certain aspects of their recent Caribbean vacation.

According to a Buckingham Palace source, talks with host countries were made to ensure the itinerary met the tour’s goals, which include celebrating the islands and commemorating the Queen’s 70-year reign.

Grenada, on the suggestion of its governor general, Dame Cecile La Grenade, participated in those deliberations.

The cause for the delay has yet to be revealed in any detail. The palace stated that Prince Edward and Sophie intend to visit the island at a later date.

On Friday, they will begin a visit of three Caribbean countries: St Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Antigua & Barbuda.
