A royal specialist reveals Camilla Parker’s crumbling relationship with her step-son William.
According to Robert Jobson, the Duke of Cambridge, who will turn 40 in the coming months, has had his share of clashes with future Queen Consort Camilla.
Jobson writes in his Dail Mail column that William fails to realise that he is at a lower position in the royal line than Charles.
“According to a senior former member of the Royal Household, William occasionally appears to forget that he is second in command to his father. ‘When it comes to his father, it’s almost as though William believes they are, on some level, direct successors to the kingdom.’
“‘Deference doesn’t appear to be an issue,’ said another well-placed source.
Camilla, on the other hand, guarantees that her husband, the future King, is safeguarded at all costs, even if it means standing up to William.
“The Duchess of Cornwall, on the other hand, is neither as accommodating to William as Charles nor as conciliatory as Catherine.

“When she believes William is exploiting his father’s generosity and goodwill, she is ready to put him in his place.
“‘The truth is that the Duchess believes it is her responsibility to occasionally protect the Prince of Wales from himself. ‘She doesn’t mind reminding people in the family – and that includes his son and heir – that he is going to be King,’ said a courtier.
“Camilla, like Charles, avoids direct confrontation in favour of subtly conveying her message.

“I recall one time when they were leaving Windsor Castle after a joint event, and the Duke of Cambridge had discovered that his father had police outriders from the Special Escort Group for a voyage, as his Royal position warranted,” another courtier recounted.
“He asked his father if he and Catherine could ride shotgun in convoy behind him, making it easier to navigate the traffic.”
“It was agreed by the Prince of Wales. When Prince William and his wife kept the Prince and Duchess of Cornwall waiting for several minutes, the Duchess of Cornwall insisted they leave without his eldest son in tow.
“All William and Catherine could see as they exited were the blue flashing lights of the motorbikes fading in the distance,” the insider said.
