NDMA distributes cheques to fire affectees families of Dadu District

ISLAMABAD: On the directives of prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, the National Disaster Management Authority(NDMA) disbursed cheques amongst fire affectees of village Faiz Muhammad Daryani Chandio, Taluka Mehr, District Dadu.

In the tragic incident that occurred on Monday night, April 18, a fire erupted due to gusty winds leaving eight people dead, three injured and affecting 75 houses in a village of District Dadu.

In a bid to mitigate the sufferings of affectees and bereaved families, the prime minister announced an immediate package of Rs 10 million PKR for the number of Kins(NOKS) of the deceased as well as the injured and affected families of the unfortunate fire incident, said a news release.

The cheques were distributed by officials of NDMA under the arrangements of PDMA Sindh and Dadu District Administration.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah admitted that the response of the Sindh government to the Mehar village tragedy was slow and said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a compensation of Rs10 million to the affected families.

Addressing a presser in Islamabad, CM Shah maintained that the PM’s announcement for the victims of the incident was a good sign. “Former Prime Minister Imran Khan never telephoned on such incidents,” he added.

While admitting the slow response to the incident, the CM clarifies that the fire tender deployed near Mehar village was nonfunctional which resulted in casualties.

He also informed the media that the Sindh government has formed the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the fire incident in the village.

Notably, the Mehar village, Dadu fire incident occurred on late Monday night that killed eight children and a woman.

The fire that reportedly erupted in the kitchen of a hut rapidly engulfed the neighbourhood and exposed the incompetence of the Sindh government.

The locals claimed that the concerned authorities didn’t show up on time and the fire resulted in casualties and the loss of more than 160 livestock.

The villagers urged the Sindh government in a protest to take notice of the attitude shown by the concerned authorities.
