Warning from Zelensky as Russia unveils new plan:10 point

The Russian offensive in Ukraine is just the start, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday, calling on nations to unite against the Kremlin’s expansionist ambitions.

As the war enters its second month, Moscow has revealed that it wants to capture not only the east but also the south. With no sign of a truce, UN chief Antonio Guterres will visit both countries next week.

Ten points about the Ukraine war:

1  “All the nations that, like us, believe in the victory of life over death must fight with us. They must help us, because we are the first in line. And who will come next?”  Zelensky’s nightly address warned.

2. A Russian general told Reuters that Moscow wants to “seize all of southern and eastern Ukraine,” a much broader war goal than previously acknowledged. The Kremlin aims to capture the rebel-held eastern Donbas, link up with the Crimean peninsula, and capture Ukraine’s entire south, he said.

3. “Control over the south of Ukraine is another way to Transdniestria, where there is also evidence that the Russian-speaking population is being oppressed,” Minnekayev said at a meeting in Russia’s central Sverdlovsk region, according to TASS.

4. Despite both sides’ talks, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, diplomatic efforts to end the war stalled.

5. Ukraine expects the humanitarian corridor in Mariupol to open on Saturday.

6. Next week, after meeting with Vladimir Putin in Moscow, UN chief Antonio Guterres will meet with Zelensky in Ukraine. Over 20 countries are expected to attend next week’s US-hosted Ukraine talks in Germany.

7. Even though UK PM Boris Johnson said on Friday that the war may not end soon, Ukraine PM Denys Shmyhal told CNN that “We are absolutely sure that Ukraine will win in this war and victory will be in (a) very short period.”

8. Shelling killed three civilians and injured seven more in eastern Donetsk, an official told the AP.

9. Satellite imagery suggests mass graves near Mariupol, the city battered for eight weeks.

10. A week after the Moskva’s fire in the Black Sea, Russia admitted the loss. The Defence Ministry said one serviceman died, 27 went missing, and 396 were rescued.
