British Embassy in Kyiv will reopen next week

Boris Johnson has stated that the British embassy in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv would reopen next week. Ambassador Melinda Simmons stated that she was “returning” after fleeing Russia’s invasion.

Additionally, the prime minister stated that there was a “realistic probability” that Russia might continue its bombing until the end of next year.

Mr Johnson claimed that the UK was considering deploying tanks to assist Poland, which sends heavy equipment to Ukraine.

The prime minister made the announcement about the embassy during a press conference in Delhi, where he has been meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It follows Russia’s withdrawal of soldiers from the area around Kyiv following its failure to grab the city and the commencement of an assault on the eastern Donbas region.

Mr Johnson paid a visit to Kyiv earlier this month to meet with President Volodymyr Zelensky, after a vow to provide Ukraine with £100 million worth of weaponry.

While fielding questions from reporters, the prime minister stated that intelligence assessments indicated that the Russian invasion may go until the end of next year, culminating in a Russian triumph.

He stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin possesses a “massive force” but is in a “difficult political situation” as a result of a “catastrophic miscalculation.”

“The only alternative he now has, frankly, is to continue using his awful, grinding tactics backed by artillery in an attempt to crush the Ukrainians down,” Mr Johnson said.

I believe that regardless of the military advantages Vladimir Putin may be able to bring to bear over the next few months, and I agree that it may be a lengthy period, he will be unable to win the Ukrainian people’s spirit.”

The prime minister stated that he was examining what the UK might do to “backfill” armaments in nations such as Poland that “may choose to transfer stronger equipment to assist the Ukrainians in their defense.”

“We’re considering deploying tanks to Poland to assist them as they transfer some of their T-72s [tanks] to Ukraine and take other moves,” Mr Johnson added.
