ex-Rangers keeper Andy Goram undergoing cancer treatment

Andy Goram, the former Rangers goalkeeper, is having cancer treatment, according to the Ibrox club. Rangers expressed their best wishes to the 58-year-old, who won six league titles and five domestic cups during his stint at the club, in a message on their Twitter account.

“Rangers can confirm our legendary goalkeeper, Andy Goram, is undergoing treatment for cancer in a local hospital,” the statement said.

“Club officials are in regular contact with Andy and his family. The family have asked for privacy at this time. Everyone at Rangers wishes ‘The Goalie’ well at this difficult time.”

“Growing up a Rangers supporter he was certainly one of my heroes,” said the club’s former captain Barry Ferguson on the Glasgow-based Go Radio. “Fantastic goalkeeper. Sad news, but he is a fighter … I’m sure Rangers will do everything they can to help him out.”

Goram started his career with Oldham, where he made 195 appearances before joining Hibernian in 1987. Rangers bought him for £1 million in 1991, and he had seven great years in Glasgow under Walter Smith.
