On Friday, a gunman with an automatic weapon opened fire in an upmarket district of Washington, wounding three.
Residents of Washington’s Connecticut Avenue-Van Ness area were evacuated after the mid-afternoon gunfire.
Mr. Emerman said three people were hospitalised, two adults in serious but stable condition and a youngster with a minor bullet wound.
Emerman told reporters police had no suspects in custody and were searching nearby homes and apartments.
We don’t know what motivated the attack at this moment, Emerman said. “Everyone in the area has been evacuated.”
Residents of the neighbourhood could be seen being evacuated by police, who stormed the area with scores of highly armed officers, according to witnesses.
