Democrat Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia defended her remarks before the Jan. 6 disturbance at the U.S. Capitol while appearing under oath as part of a voter and legal challenge to her reelection.

There has been a Democratic-led investigation into the attack on Jan. 6 in Washington, D.C., for months, but Greene’s presence in an Atlanta court on Friday made her one of the first Republican members of Congress to testify publicly about it.

There has been a Democratic-led investigation into the attack on Jan. 6 in Washington, D.C., for months, but Greene’s presence in an Atlanta court on Friday made her one of the first Republican members of Congress to testify publicly about it.

On the witness stand, she repeated unsubstantiated charges of election fraud and stated her tense rhetoric prior to Jan. 6 was a challenge to the vote count, not a call for violence.

“I oppose all forms of violence,” Greene responded when asked about it. “My words never intend violence.”

Greene’s fans cheered her entry inside the courtroom.
