A royal author revealed that Meghan Markle was given several derogatory nicknames by Palace staff, including ‘Me-Gain’ and ‘Duchess Difficult.’
According to The Daily Star, the shocking nicknames were given to Meghan after she earned a bad reputation among Palace staff due to her behaviour in the first few weeks of her arrival; she has been accused of being ‘rude’ to royal servants.
Several of these monikers were revealed by royal biographer Tom Quinn in his book Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle, with sources placed directly at Kensington Palace confirming them.
One servant told Quinn that Meghan was probably not used to ‘dealing with servants’ because she was American.
“Like many people who aren’t used to dealing with servants, Meghan overdoes the imperiousness,” the source said. So, on the one hand, she wants to be a people’s princess like Diana, and on the other, she wants people to stand up when she clicks her fingers.”
“This did not go down well with the staff, who, according to reliable reports, began using rather unflattering nicknames for her within weeks of her arrival: ‘Me-Gain,’ the ‘Duchess of Difficult,’ and even ‘Di 2’ or ‘Di Lite,'” Quinn wrote.
Di 2 and Di Lite were intended to be parodies of Princess Diana’s struggles in the royal palaces.
Quinn further shared: “Meanwhile, the royal courtiers at Kensington — the same tweedy, British, public-school, ex-army aristocrats they’ve always been — simply didn’t know what to make of Meghan.”
