In the face of Russian armed aggression, the US government has provided an additional $800 million to help Ukraine bolster its defensive capabilities.
“We won’t always be able to advertise everything we and our partners are doing to support Ukraine in its fight for freedom,” US President Joe Biden said at the White House on Thursday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent. “But, to modernize Teddy Roosevelt’s famous advice, sometimes we will speak softly and carry a large javelin, because we are also sending a lot of those [Javelin anti-tank missile systems].”
According to him, heavy artillery equipment, including dozens of howitzers and ammunition, as well as tactical drones, will be included in the new aid package for Ukraine. Biden emphasised that the US and its partners were working fast to deliver weaponry to Ukrainian soldiers to defend themselves.
At the same time, he stated that he spoke with Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, who is presently in Washington. He and Biden had a “nice conversation,” according to Biden, regarding support for Ukraine and resistance to Russian aggression.
Furthermore, the President stated that he will make a formal request to the US Congress next week to approve a new large-scale assistance package to assist Ukraine. He expressed confidence that Congress would promptly approve the request.
“In order to keep weapons and ammunition flowing to the brave Ukrainian fighters and continue to deliver economic assistance to the Ukrainian people,” he said, “next week I’m going to send to Congress a supplementary budget request to keep weapons and ammunition flowing without interruption to the brave Ukrainian fighters and continue to deliver economic assistance to the Ukrainian people.”
In this regard, he expressed gratitude to American taxpayers and the military for their assistance for Ukraine.
