In his defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp seemed to be testifying for the third day in a Fairfax, Virginia court.
“I’d be a complete moron not to believe that Ms. Heard’s statements had an impact on my career, whether they included my name or not,” Depp told the court.
Evidence was brought late in Wednesday’s session during cross-examination by Heard’s lawyer Ben Rottenborn that suggested Disney had decided to withdraw Depp from “Pirates” before Heard’s 2018 piece.
Johnny Depp is suing Heard for $50 million over an op-ed she penned in the Washington Post in 2018 about her experience with domestic abuse.
Depp alleges it cost him lucrative film employment in Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, although she did not name him in the essay.
Heard said Depp damaged her face after hurling a phone at her in 2016. Depp rejected the accusation and was cleared of any wrongdoing.
In his evidence this week, Depp admitted that he and Heard had disagreements throughout their relationship, but said, “I never to the point of striking Ms. Heard in any way, nor have I ever struck any woman in my life.”
The actor claimed that shattered glass sliced his finger when Heard reportedly hurled a bottle of vodka at him during a fight in 2015.
