BRIGITTE MACRON acknowledged in a throwback interview that she “couldn’t wait” to see 16-year-old Emmanuel Macron as she discussed the age gap with her husband and how her love for him while she was still his drama instructor “seemed insane.”

Tonight, Emmanuel Macron squares off against Marine Le Pen in a French presidential election television debate. In the first round of voting, the centrist incumbent defeated his far-right rival, setting up a two-way runoff for the president on April 24. Mr. Macron accompanied his wife Brigitte to a voting station in Le Touquet last week to vote in the first round.

The French First Lady, 69, is 25 years older than her husband, 44, whom she met in the 1990s while teaching drama at his high school.

Brigitte acknowledged to ELLE France in 2017 that she “couldn’t wait” to visit Mr. Macron during their collaboration on a play at a French Catholic school in the city of Amiens.

She claimed her emotions “seemed insane” when she and the future President collaborated on the Italian writer Eduardo De Filippo’s ‘The Art Of Comedy’ for months.

Brigitte explained to the magazine: “We wrote plays together in that theatre workshop — our relationship was one of artistic equality.”

“It was when we worked on the Eduardo De Filippo play ‘The Art of Comedy’.

“We wrote together on Friday nights – and by Saturday, I couldn’t wait for Friday to come around.

“I didn’t understand why. It seemed insane.”

The couple worked on the writing until late at night, despite the fact that neither had a long commute home.

Mr. Macron resided in Amiens with his parents, both physicians, while Brigitte cohabited with her husband and children on a nearby property.
