IN THE COUNTRY, ANOTHER universal basic income (UBI) program worth $1,000 a month is set to launch.

According to a tweet released by Mayor Brandon Scott’s office, the payments will be made to 200 low-income households in Baltimore, Maryland.

Under UBI, certain individuals get recurrent payments, typically for a limited period of time.

Baltimore, for example, will provide qualifying households with $1,000 each month for 24 months.

The city is cooperating on the guaranteed income initiative with local charity organization CASH Campaign of Maryland, which assists low-income Americans.

Mayor Brandon Scott unveiled the proposal for the first time in February 2021.
