UN: Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, more than 5 million people have fled the country

As of April 19, more than 5 million people had fled Ukraine due to the Russian Federation’s war.The UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) provides this information, according to Ukrinform.

It is worth noting that the vast majority — over 2.8 million individuals – fled to Poland. More than 757,000 people visited Romania, 549,000 visited Russia, 471,000 visited Hungary, 426,000 visited Moldova, 342,000 visited Slovakia, and 23,000 visited Belarus.

According to the UN International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) most recent estimate, another 7.1 million Ukrainian nationals are internally displaced, meaning they have remained in the country but have had to abandon their homes.

According to reports, Ukraine’s Ministry of Social Policy and the UNHCR’s Office for the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) signed a Memorandum on improving access to social services and cash support.
