Breaking the ice: PM Shehbaz meets President Arif Alvi

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday finally called on President Dr Arif Alvi, sources said.

The meeting was held at the President House in Islamabad, Bol News reported.

Sources said the meeting between PM Shehbaz and President Arif Alvi lasted for more than an hour. The premier inquired after the health of the president.

Sources said both officials discussed matters about the appointment of governors in all provinces. Along with it, they also discussed the summary sent by the Prime Minister Office (PMO) for the removal of Punjab Governor Omar Sarfaraz Cheema.

Sources also reported that both officials also discussed measures to reduce tension.

According to Bol News, President Arif Alvi said he was serving his duties according to the law and constitution.

The meeting is a thaw in the relations between officials belonging to rival parties.

Earlier, President Arif Alvi had excused himself from taking oath from the federal cabinet of the Pakistan Democratic Government (PDM).

He had also gone on short leave due to illness and did not take oath from the newly-elected PM Shehbaz.
