Former federal planning minister Asad Umar on Tuesday said the incumbent government inherited the economy in a ‘running condition’.
However, the ex-minister expressed concern that the wheels of the economy may come to a halt soon the way decisions are being taken.
Taking to his Twitter account, Asad Umar wrote, “The imported government has got the economy in the best running condition … record exports, record crops, increase in industrial production, rapid increase in employment opportunities.”

He added, “The slowness and incompetence with which they [government] are taking decisions, it seems as if the engine is about to start emitting smoke.”

Asad Umar’s statement is a response to Ahsan Iqbal, the new planning minister, who said in a media talk earlier in the day that the biggest challenge for the incumbent government was to revive the economy and improve access to international markets.
He also said all projects in the science, technology, and engineering sectors would be restarted at a faster pace.
