In a homage to Taylor Swift, a millipede has been named after her

Taylor Swift’s meteoric rise has prompted academics to name a millipede after her!

A millipede is now known as Nannaria swiftae and is commonly seen in the Appalachian Mountains.

One of the 17 uncommon species discovered in the area is this rare species. It is necessary for decomposition and the dispersion of nutrients in forested habitats.

In a statement, Virginia Tech entomologist Derek Hennen stated, “Her music helped me get through the highs and lows of graduate school, so naming a new millipede species after her is my way of expressing thanks.”

They feature a black trunk with white, red, or orange markings and white legs, and are 18 to 38 millimetres long.
