NEW IMAGES SHOW MISSILES BEING LOADED ONTO HMS Audacious, the most powerful nuclear submarine in the United Kingdom.
The assault submarine is moored at Gibraltar at the moment, having arrived on Saturday afternoon. It is one of the Royal Navy’s powered submarines of the Astute-Class, which are among the most advanced undersea vehicles ever built. The new submarines are progressively displacing the Trafalgar-Class submarines, which have served for nearly four decades.
The HMS Audacious is armed to the teeth with Tomahawk Land Attack Cruise Missiles (TLAMs) and Spearfish heavyweight torpedoes.
A crane can be seen putting missiles onto the submarine in fresh photographs supplied by the Fotografiks agency.
The ship is parked alongside the USS Georgia, which arrived at the facility on Wednesday.
The presence of two submarines beside one another underscores Gibraltar’s growing importance as a naval supply hub for the UK military and its allies.
It is exceedingly rare for two submarines to be stationed at the same naval facility at the same time.
This occurred last year when the USS Olympia and HMS Talent docked at the harbor.
Spain and an environmental organization have protested the arrival of the two submarines.
The Spanish government opposed the US decision not to send the USS Georgia to Rota, Spain, where the US has a permanent naval station.
Verdemar, a Spanish environmental organization, was likewise dissatisfied with the two nuclear warships’ landing in Gibraltar.
According to the organization, the presence of the two substitutes presented a threat to the towns surrounding the Bay of Gibraltar.
A spokesperson said: “These submarines are authentic floating bombs and put our families and our environment at risk.
