ECP releases Local government election schedule in Punjab

LAHORE: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday issued a notification for local body elections in Punjab province.

A statement issued here said that local body elections in Punjab will be held on June 9 and nomination papers would be available on April 18.

The statement further said that in the first phase, elections will be held in Layyah, Khanewal, Vehari, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin and other districts.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf candidate Nadeem Khan Khial has won the NA-33 Hangu by securing over 21500 votes while the JUI-F candidate stood second and ANP got the third position.

Polling for by-election on the vacant seat of NA-33 Hangu was peacefully concluded and counting of the votes is in progress so far.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, a total of five candidates are in the run for the NA-33 seat. The candidates include Saeed Umar of ANP, Ubaidullah of JUI-F, and Nadeem Khan of PTI, while two candidates Atiq Ahmed and Muhammad Saeed are contesting in an independent capacity.

The ECP has established a Control Room in the Provincial Election Commissioner’s office in Peshawar to monitor and address complaints regarding the bye-polls.

NA-33 Hangu had fallen vacant due to the death of MNA Khial Zaman.
