A hearing found that nearly all of the £2.1 million raised in Jersey to aid Ukraine has been spent.
The Economic and International Affairs Scrutiny Panel was informed that £1.8 million had been donated to a charity assisting Ukrainians.
It was reported that the funds were used to purchase 4,000 trauma kits, 150 bulletproof vests, and helmets for medical personnel.
The chair of the panel said he “welcomed the fact” donations were being directly used to assist medics.
At its final quarterly public hearing of the current term of office, the panel questioned Deputy Minister for International Development Carolyn Labey.
It was informed that the funds had been donated to UNICEF and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and chair deputy David Johnson expressed satisfaction that the minister was satisfied with the island’s contributions.
“We were glad to learn that the Minister is satisfied with the work that NGOs are doing in Poland to maximise the use of the Island’s donations and to ensure collaboration with refugees,” Deputy David Johnson said.
“In addition, we welcome the fact that such donations are being directly used to assist medics on the ground.”
