A massive fire has erupted near the M4 in Berkshire, sending billowing plumes of smoke into the air.
Firefighters are on the scene of an industrial fire in Westbrook, Newbury. The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service warned residents to avoid the area because the fire may involve fireworks and pyrotechnics.
The M4 was temporarily closed near Junction 14 for Hungerford but reopened later that day.
The fire department stated in a statement: “We got reports of a fire at an industrial building in Westbrook, Newbury, at 1.41 pm on Saturday.
“Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) crews from Newbury, Theale, and two Officers have currently been sent to the scene, together with crews from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.
“Firefighters have found a fire involving possible pyrotechnics and fireworks.
“Cordons are in place, but people are urged to stay away from the area while emergency services deal with this fire.”
In a tweet, the fire department added: “Firefighters are now battling a major fire near the M4’s J14-13 interchange.
“Please restrict any calls to emergencies only as crews are extremely busy. Many thanks.”
