IPL: Lack of partnerships cost us the game, Sharma says

The absence of partnerships caused Mumbai Indians (MI) to lose the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 16 at the Brabourne Stadium, according to MI captain Rohit Sharma.

The Mumbai-based squad finished with 181/9 after being forced to chase down 200 runs, resulting in an 18-run loss.

It was also their sixth consecutive loss in the Indian Premier League’s 2022 edition (IPL).

The 34-year-old Sharma believes that the MI bowlers were unable to contain the Super Giants’ hitters in the last overs.

In order to make a comeback, the Mumbai captain asserted emphatically that the MI players must step up their game in the forthcoming matches.

“It cost us a lot of money because we didn’t develop alliances. We attempted to put the team first, so we kept the important bowlers at the back end, but it didn’t work out, despite his excellent bowling”, after the game, Rohit stated.

“The others need to pull up their socks.”

Rohit applauds KL Rahul, who hit an unbeaten 103 off just 60 balls to enable LSG reach a total of 199.

“We strive to come up with winning combinations and playing XIs, but we can’t do it after losses.”

“It is dependent on the opponent, but losses make things more difficult. Sometimes, like with Rahul, it’s necessary to celebrate the opponent’s performance.”

“I’d fix it if I knew what’s wrong, but it’s not coming off.” But I accept responsibility, and I will look to put my knowledge to good use, and we hope to return as a team again,” he continued.

MI remained at the bottom of the points standings with a terrible net run rate of -1.048 after yet another loss.

MI will play the Ravindra Jadeja-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai on Thursday, April 21.
