Erica Anderson, a 71-year-old, is a transgender psychologist who has helped hundreds of teens transition.
She has warned that it has ‘gone too far.’
She is a transgender herself, who fears that people are making life-changing decisions, to intermingle with the growing society.
She is scared that even 13-year-olds are getting hormone treatments without consulting with the psychologists.
She says, “I think it’s gone too far.”
She led the US professional society at the front line of transgender care.
She thought that families were embracing their kids that were gender variant.
Now the parents say, “This just doesn’t make sense.”
She is highly concerned and worried that she is considering of ending her work of helping teens transition.
She thinks that it has gone too far, and it will get worse.
She believes that the rise in transition treatment is driven by peer pressure of the society.
She thinks that there is wider acceptance of trans issues.
She told the LA Times, “To flatly say there couldn’t be any social influence in formation of gender identity flies in the face of reality. Teenagers influence each other.”
It has appeared to her that isolation due to pandemic has made them learn more on networks.
She said that people should wait until they are absolutely sure before acting.
“I have a dictum: When in doubt, doubt,” she told. “Questioning is a good thing. How are you going to find out if you are lockstep with whatever conclusion you come to first?”
She is an avant-garde, yet she finds it odd for making it easier for someone to transition.
Eckert is a non-binary who uses they/them pronouns, said, “Being trans or gender diverse is not a mental illness, and compulsory psychotherapy is not the standard of care in the gender-affirming medical model.”
